ATLANTA -- The new Powerball makes its deut this week with bigger starting jackpots, better overall odds and more millionaires.

The enhanced game's first drawing will be Wednesday.

Powerball starting jackpots will double to $40 million and will grow faster. The game's second prize will increase from $250,000 to $1 million, and to $2 million with the Power Play option. Additionally, overall odds and odds to win a jackpot prize have improved.

The game's ticket price also will change from $1 to $2 per play.

Players can still multiply with the Power Play option for an additional $1 per play.

"The enhancements to Powerball are one of the many ways we are working to increase profits for lottery-funded HOPE Scholarships and pre-K," said Margaret DeFrancisco, president and CEO of the Georgia Lottery. "It's vital that we keep our product mix fresh and exciting, and provide players with a variety of options."

Powerball drawings are held every Wednesday and Saturday. This Wednesday's jackpot is $80 million.
