SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. -- The HIES chapter of Mu Alpha Theta, the national mathematics honor society for high school students, is pleased to announce the addition of 18 new members: seniors Brendan McCloskey and Whitney Weiss; and juniors Zain Bashy, Gracen Betts, Max Brauer, Hugh Chapman, Clarisa Colton, Sean Hackett, Fiona Henry, Cameron Jackson, Keillor Johnston, Catherine Kasper, Ben Matiski, Avery Pinkpank, Kirby Rodriquez, Natalie Scales, Logan Schick, and Carson Staples.  Mu Alpha Theta is a national honorary mathematics society that recognizes students who have achieved and excelled in mathematics. The HIES Mu Alpha Theta chapter promotes appreciation of mathematics by involving Lower School students in hands-on activities, and offering tutoring to Middle and Upper School students. The HIES chapter also participates in outreach by volunteering with the Sandy Springs Mission after-school program. Students tutor underprivileged youth enrolled in the after-school program and promote mastery in necessary skills that help these students succeed in school.
