ADOPT A PET: Meet Ming

ADOPT A PET: Meet Ming

ATLANTA - If you dream of coming home to a wet nose, wagging tail and tons of kisses (in addition to, perhaps, a half-chewed shoe or an overturned trashcan) adopt a puppy from your local Humane Society. According to the ASPCA, approximately 5 million to 7 million domesticated animals enter animal shelters nationwide, every year, and approximately 3 million to 4 million are euthanized. However, you can change those numbers by adopting a "companion" for yourself or for your family. Pets are an investment but, in our opinion, an investment well worth the money.

Ming is a one year old female Hound and Shepard mix and she's available for adoption from the Atlanta Humane Society. Ming came to the Humane Society because her owner couldn’t take care of her, anymore. She is a very active puppy and needs a lot of outdoor play. The Humane Society hopes she finds a home where she can learn new things while being spoiled.

DUNWOODY: Rescued from war

DUNWOODY: Rescued from war

DUNWOODY, Ga. -- Marion Ellis and her husband Randy sit in the living room of their Dunwoody home. Their family is no stranger to service. Randy Ellis retired as a Lieutenant Colonel from the Army. Their daughter is Air Force Captain Kirsten Ellis, stationed in Iraq to train members of the Iraqi airforce.

"Having her in Iraq has been so tough for me," Marion said. "Everytime you hear another car bomb that went off or there's suicide bombing, you just take a deep breath and, you know, hope that she's protected and safe."

Kirsten had the safety of a litter others on her mind. A professed animal lover with three dogs of her own at home, she recently rescued a dog, Fatoon, and her seven puppies, who had been wandering near an Iraqi airfield.

He’s a short haired dog so summer grooming won’t be an immensely arduous task. Martin will need a couple of hours of exercise every day.
