Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta Announces New Board of Directors Members

Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta (BGCMA) recently added the following Atlanta business leaders to the Corporate Board of Directors:

  • Frank Fenello, managing director at UHY Advisors GA, Inc
  • Ernest Greer, managing shareholder with GreenbergTraurig in the Atlanta office
  • Andy Macke, vice president of government and community affairs with Comcast
  • Dane Mauldin, senior vice president with LexisNexis Solutions
  • Thomas McNeill, partner at Bryan Cave Powell Goldstein
  • Colin Meadows, active CAO of Amvescap
  • Merrick Olives, managing partner at MOSAIC
  • Brenda Potter, vice president of public affairs for Fiserv
  • Iain Urquhart, general manager at Microsoft

The move continues the non-profit organization’s tradition of tapping leaders from Atlanta’s business community to support its efforts to serve Atlanta youth.

Atlanta, GA--  This weekend I headed over to Radio Personality, Frank Ski & Tanya’s lovely home for their Annual Local Legends Scholarship Luncheon. Frank and Tanya have a non profit organization called, Frank Ski Kids that caters to young adults that teach them different skills by taking them on trips or doing local things in the community.

On this day, 7 young ladies(seniors in high school) that have 3.0 grade average or higher were invited to be acknowledged for all their hard work and community service. Tanya usually picks 6 young ladies but this year she chose 7. She said it was very hard to choose this time around.

DECATUR – DeKalb County Recreation, Parks and Cultural Affairs will hold Camp Superstars summer camp registration on Saturday, March 26, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at all 12 recreation centers.

Camp Superstars is a summer day camp for ages 5-15 and begins May 31 and ends on July 29. Camp Superstars is held a various recreation centers around the county.

The day camp is held Monday through Friday from 7AM – 6PM. Campers must pay a fee of $55 per week and breakfast and lunch will be provided.

Early registration for this camp is recommended. The registration application is available at http://www.dekalbcountyga.gov/parks. Applications can be printed and returned to the recreation center of choice on March 26 along with first week fee.

Georgia mayors ride to the Capitol

ROSWELL, Ga. -- Roswell Mayor Jere Wood, along with other mayors from Metro Atlanta, will take to the streets on Tuesday, Mar. 22 in the sixth annual Georgia Rides to the Capitol event.

The police-escorted 21-mile ride will lead cyclists from Roswell City Hall to the Capitol.

ATLANTA -- On Wednesday, Feb. 23, the middle school students and teachers at the Davis Academy decided to discard their uniforms, don their jeans and favorite band T-shirts, and rock out.

This special school day was devoted to all things musical. Some famous guest musicians even paid a visit to help Davis Academy feel the "Power of Music."

Commissioner Stan Watson to Address Issues Impacting Black DeKalb

DECATUR – In recognition of Black History Month, DeKalb County Commissioner Stan Watson is pleased to present to the citizens of DeKalb County the “State of Black DeKalb” - How Far Have We Come?  The event will feature a series of panel guests in a discussion to share insight on issues that impact critical quality of life issues.

Topics covered in the “State of Black DeKalb” include:
