Perimeter among region's most walkable areas

SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. -- George Washington University has named Central Perimeter one of the Atlanta area's most Walkable Urban Places (WalkUPs).

The winning areas were chosen by how easy they are to navigate without cars.

"We continue to emphasize the importance of pedestrian connectivity in all of our projects," said Yvonne Williams, president and CEO of the Pereimter Community Improvement Districts. "The (PCIDs) has led the transformation of Perimeter from a suburban car-dependent area to a livable, walkable community, which is paying off with significant economic returns."

Williams cited the pedestrian median in the Ashford Dunwoody Diverging Diamond and the brick crosswalks in the Hammond Half-Diamond as projects that make the area safer for walkers.

"The PCIDs are laying the foundation for Perimeter to be a sustainable, economically strong area for decades to come," she said.
