Bear spotted in Dunwoody area

DUNWOODY, Ga. -- Dunwoody residents are keeping their eyes open after a bear on the loose was spotted over the weekend.

Police say there have been numerous sightings of what's believed to be a black bear in the past week. The bear is staying in a two-mile radius just outside the perimeter between Ashford Dunwoody and Chamblee Dunwoody, authorities said.

Police say they are hoping the fence around the perimeter keeps the bear from trying to cross I-285. They've contacted the Department of Natural Resources and are warning residents to leave the bear alone. The DNR says it will hopefully find its way home.

"At this time they are choosing to let the bear be," said Dunwoody Police Sgt. Andrew Fondas. "They are not going to come out and try to trap it or relocate it; they feel that the bear will eventually move on from this area."
