8 churches to participate in Thanksgiving service

DUNWOODY, Ga. -- Leaders from eight Dunwoody churches will gather at the Dunwoody High School Performing Arts Center this week for a special community-wide Thanksgiving service.

The free event will begin at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 20. Everyone is invited to attend.

Participating churches include All Saints Catholic Church, Dunwoody Baptist Church, Dunwoody Community Church, Dunwoody United Methodist Church, Kingswood United Methodist Church, St. Luke's Presbyterian Church, St. Patrick's Episcopal Church and The Village Church.

Tamara Carrera, CEO of the Community Assistance Center, will also be in attendance to speak about how to help families in need in Dunwoody and Sandy Springs.

FMSA family and community enjoy fall activities

FMSA family and community enjoy fall activities

Families, students, and the community recently enjoyed a fun-filled fall day at First Montessori School of Atlanta's 18th Annual Montessori Mile. In addition to road races, the Saturday activities included gardening, a Family Festival, a Chili Cook-off and a Soles4Souls shoe collection drive. Participants also contributed to Middle School student Sarah Tolchin's ongoing effort to collect funds for Pennies for Peace and purchased homemade nut-free basil pesto made by Livia Osorio’s Upper Elementary class.

Parents and students competed in the first-ever FMSA Chili Cook-Off. Marcell Lubsey earned bragging rights and a Golden Ladle for the best-tasting chili.

Winning runners in the children's events were (1st) Matt Fumo and Amy Soba; (2nd) River Ross and Annie Ingham; and (3rd) Jack Friedline and Alexandra Lubsey.

Light Up Dunwoody Christmas Village opens Sunday

DUNWOODY, Ga. -- The holiday season has officially begun in Dunwoody.

The Light Up Dunwoody Christmas Village will open this Sunday, Nov. 18 at 3 p.m. This annual spectacle offers plenty of family-friendly Christmas fun, such as lights, giveaways and refreshments.

At 5:45 p.m., the village will light its Christmas tree. Santa and his elves will be there, as will Santa's sleigh. Families are more than welcome to take pictures with Santa and in his sleigh.

Spruill Gallery Holiday Artists Market opens Thursday

DUNWOODY, Ga. -- More than 90 artists are scheduled to participate in this year's Holiday Artists Market at Spruill Gallery.

The market will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15 with an opening night celebration.

This year's festivities include a jewelry trunk show, a family day of activities and a shopping event with extended market hours.

More than 2,000 JROTC cadets from 30 metro Atlanta high schools
to participate in historic fundraising effort

On Saturday, November 3rd and Sunday, November 4th, visitors to metro Atlanta Kroger stores are likely to be met by a smiling, uniformed JROTC cadet with an Empty Stocking Fund logo, as more than 2,000 cadets representing 30 metro Atlanta high schools’ JROTC programs will be working outside metro Kroger stores to raise awareness of and contributions for The Empty Stocking Fund, an Atlanta-based, Atlanta-serving non-profit organization that has been providing holiday gifts to Atlanta’s neediest children since 1926.

Shoe Drive at FMSA: Community invited to participate

SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. -- If you're running out of shelf space to store your shoes, consider donating a few pairs to the Soles4Souls shoe drive. Through Friday, Nov. 2, First Montessori School of Atlanta, located at 5750 Long Island Drive in Sandy Springs, has a drop box available in the school pavilion to accept donations from the community.

Soles4Souls is a 501(c)(3) organization that collects shoes from the warehouses of footwear companies and the closets of people like you. Since 2005, the organization has delivered over 19 million pairs of new and gently worn shoes to people in more than 125 countries, including Kenya, Thailand, Nepal and the United States.

ATLANTA -- Fourteen students, ages 7 - 11, from First Montessori School of Atlanta, recently participated in the World Water Monitoring Challenge™ at The John Ripley Forbes Big Trees Preserve in the City of Sandy Springs. WWMC is an international education and outreach program that encourages people of all ages to conduct basic monitoring of their local water bodies.
