Perimeter Business Expo to return in 2013

DUNWOODY, Ga. -- The second annual Greater Perimeter Business Expo will be held Thursday, May 2.

The Dunwoody and Sandy Springs/Perimeter chambers of commerce have teamed up to bring back the expo, which was enormously popular in its inaugural year.

More than 100 businesses are expected to participate in the event, which is presented in a trade show-like environment.

"Last year's Greater Perimeter Business Expo was a great way to connect with other local businesses, create awareness and engage new clients. We definitely want to exhibit again," Victoria Ishee, director of business development at Digital Corporation, said in a statement.

The expo will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 2 at the Crowne Plaza Ravinia, which is located at 4355 Ashford Dunwoody Road in Dunwoody. Admission and parking are free.

ATLANTA  – After a year of successful builds, memorable events and new adventures, LEGOLAND Discovery Center is ready to celebrate its first birthday with an all-out LEGO-filled bash! The attraction is doing it big with a whole week devoted to the celebration, March 16-23. Area LEGO lovers are invited to join LEGOLAND Discovery Center for a week of themed builds, giveaways, mini birthday activities, crafts and fun visits with the attraction’s mascot, Bertie.

“We are all so thankful for and overwhelmed by the support the community has shown LEGOLAND Discovery Center during our first year in Atlanta, “said General Manager Penda Meftah.  “After a fun first year, we’re thrilled to continue the momentum with our birthday week festivities. We hope all of our friends come celebrate with us!”

DUNWOODY, Ga. -- The Dunwoody Nature Center has planned a fun weekend to help adults and kids learn more about our feathered friends.

The fun begins Friday, Feb. 15 with Owl Always Love You, an adults-only Valentine-themed evening. Monteen McCord, founder of raptor rehabilitation center HawkTalk, will discuss birds' mating rituals, breeding habits and more.

Owl Always Love You begins at 6:30 p.m. The cost is $20 for nature center members and $25 for non-members. Prices include drinks and light appetizers.

On Saturday, Feb. 16, the family-friendly events begin. The nature center will offer bird watching all day and will also host information sessions at 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m.

A Birding Merit Badge workshop for Boy Scouts will be held Sunday, Feb. 17 from 1 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Registration for the event is $25.

ATLANTA -- Chick-fil-A's wildly popular Daddy-Daughter Date Night will return in February.

More than 100 Atlanta- and Athens-area Chick-fil-A restaurants will host the event on Saturday, Feb. 2 from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Every couple in attendance will receive an activity sheet with conversation topics and a booklet called "Continuing the Conversation," which gives the dads and daughters suggestions for getting to know each other better.

"One of Chick-fil-A's goals is to promote community connections and enrich the lives of everyone we serve," Chick-fil-A area marketing director Robin Lomax said in a statement. "We understand the importance of father-daughter relationships and want to encourage dads to take a break from busy schedules, enjoy their daughters' company over a meal and have fun."

Rep. Tom Price to address North Fulton Chamber

ROSWELL, Ga. -- U.S. Congressman Tom Price (R-Ga.) will be the keynote speaker at the North Fulton Chamber of Commerce's January Eggs & Enterprise Breakfast.

Price began his Washington career in 2004 as the representative of Georgia's 6th district, which includes eastern Cobb, northern Fulton and northern DeKalb counties.

He also served four terms with the Georgia State Senate, including two as Minority Whip.

Price is known throughout Congress for being the go-to Republican on health care policy, according to North Fulton Chamber president Brandon Beach. He is also a fierce opponent of government waste and always pushes for limited government and lower spending.

Before beginning his political career, Price worked as an orthopedic surgeon. He served as an assistant professor of medicine at Emory University and is the former medical director of the Orthopedic Clinic at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta.

AKA holding peace rally for middle school students

ATLANTA -- Members of metro Atlanta's chapters of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority will hold a peace rally and workshop for middle school students over the Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday weekend.

The event will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19 at the Ivy Community Center in southwest Atlanta. It is part of the 40 Days of Peace project, which aims to spread service and kindness through the country.

The peace rally and workshop will aim to teach young people about Dr. King's mission, and to raise awareness of crime and crime prevention strategies. Law enforcement members will also give an interactive presentation to encourage children to stamp out gangs and bullying.

Middle school students from several metro Atlanta counties -- Cobb, Cherokee, Clayton, Coweta, DeKalb, Douglas, Fayette, Forsyth, Fulton, Gwinnett, Hall, Henry, Paulding and Rockdale -- are expected to participate.

ATLANTA -- Fulton County comprises 10 percent of Georgia’s population and accounts for 54 percent of the state’s AIDS cases.

In recognition of World AIDS Day on December 1, 2012, starting November 27, both health agencies will sponsor events to encourage residents to take control and get tested in a world-wide effort to reach “ZERO New Infections, ZERO Discrimination and ZERO AIDS Related Deaths.  The County has partnered with DeKalb County to provide similar services in order to have the greatest impact on reducing new HIV infections.
