Droughts signals bad news for peanut butter lovers

ATLANTA -- It's been 30 years since so few acres of peanuts were planted in Georgia.

The shortage and ongoing drought are bringing higher prices for peanuts and their favorite cousin -- peanut butter.

The acreage is down because farmers chose to plant cotton, which was commanding higher prices. It was thought plenty of peanuts would still be available, but many of the plants have not come out of the ground due to drought.

The situation has peanut butter manufacturers bracing for tighter supplies, according to Don Koehler with the Georgia Peanut Commission.

Georgia is the nation's largest producer of peanuts, producing 46 percent of U.S. peanuts.

Elarbee Thompson Attorney Josh Viau Named Chair of State Bar of Georgia Labor and Employment Law Sec

Elarbee Thompson attorney Josh Viau has been named chair of the Labor and Employment Law Section of the State Bar of Georgia.  Viau began his term July 1, 2011 and will chair the committee for one year.

The State Bar of Georgia’s Labor and Employment Law Section focuses attention on all areas of labor/management-employee/employer relationships through continuing legal education and received the award for the Georgia Bar’s Section of the Year last year.

“I am honored to have the opportunity to chair the Labor and Employment Section,” said Viau.  “We have done some really good things under our previous leadership and I hope to continue that trend.  A few years ago, we decided that we needed to expand our reach to involve lawyers from different parts of the state and last year held successful events in Savannah and Tifton.  I hope to continue that trend in the next year.”

Make Your Mark: Ultimate Dance Off – 'Shake It Up' edition," Disney Channel's first national dance talent search just for kids, hosted by AT&T U-verse, will make its mark at Mall of Georgia in Buford, Georgia. Kids ages 8-16, with the consent of a parent, will have the opportunity to show off their dance skills and record a dance video onsite for online submission for a chance to compete in a dance off to air on Disney Channel in October 2011. The grand prize includes a special guest dance spot on "Shake It Up" plus the chance to meet the cast. Fans and dance enthusiasts are invited to come down and participate in a Q&A with Roshon Fegan.
