SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. -- Beginning in May, Ray’s on the River will host an intimate, three-part jazz concert series to benefit local charities. The concerts will be held at Ray’s on the River’s manicured Event Lawn that overlooks the Chattahoochee River.

“We’re really excited to host such renowned jazz musicians and to be able to partner with such worthy causes,” said Mike Ross, director of operations for Ray’s Restaurants. “As an Atlanta restaurant group, we feel we have a great responsibility to give back to our local community. The Chattahoochee River is the perfect setting to enjoy an afternoon of live music and great food with friends and family.”

Spice Market Announces “Artful Thursdays” and “Après Art” Packages

Spice Market, located inside the W Atlanta-Midtown, is rolling out two new promotions with the High Museum of Art in Midtown beginning the week of April 16 in order to encourage guests to support the arts and to offer a convenient and free parking option for museum-goers.

The restaurant’s Artful Thursdays will take place every Thursday evening beginning at 5 p.m. and includes the following:

·         Complimentary valet at the W Atlanta-Midtown (guests most present their High Museum ticket and their Spice Market receipt upon leaving to receive valet services free of charge)

·         Half-priced tickets to the High Museum of Art, which can be purchased at the Museum. The Museum is open until 8 p.m. on Thursdays.

Art Institutes to hold 'You Can Create Tomorrow' poster competition

ATLANTA -- Calling all budding artists!

The Art Institute of Atlanta, in conjunction with Americans for the Arts, is holding a poster competition for people interested in enrolling at the institute.

The competition will be held in two categories: high school seniors and adults/high school graduates. Its theme, "You Can Create Tomorrow," challenges contestants to depict how they would use their education at the Art Institute of Atlanta.

Both local winners will receive scholarships to the institute ($3,000 for a high school student, $1,000 for a graduate) and advance to the national competition. The high school senior who wins at the national level will receive a full scholarship to the Art Institute of his or her choice, while the graduate winner will win a $10,000 scholarship.

ATLANTA, Ga. – On Saturday, December 3, the Spruill Gallery will host their Holiday Artists Market 2011. The artists market will feature holiday gifts, jewelry, ceramics and other handcrafted materials.

The Holiday Artists Market will be held during the Spruill Gallery’s Family Day Celebration. The celebration will include tastings from Atlanta’s Best Chocolates, Art Activities with Sandra Bennett and demonstrations from Blend: Custom Parfum Studio.

The Spruill Gallery is located at 4681 Ashford Dunwoody Road in Atlanta.

ATLANTA -- If you're planning to stand in line for Black Friday deals at Best Buy, you may get a chance to enjoy a free screening of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2.

Four Atlanta-area Best Buy stores will show the film at 9 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day, giving customers the chance to relax before the Black Friday shopping begins at midnight.

Get there at 8 p.m. to take advantage of refreshments and giveaways. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 in 3D will be available for sale at Best Buy stores.

LOCAL PROFILE: Steve Stoute, founder of Transition

ATLANTA, Ga. -- Recently, Steve Stoute stopped by Spelman College to chat about his revolutionary take on the marketing world and a concept he calls “tanning”. Stoute started off as a road manager for hip-hop group Kid 'n Play and has since founded his own marketing firm, helped coin the McDonald's theme song and created his own firm, Translation LLC.

He has consulted for many of the top names in the music business and, a number of Fortune 500 companies, and he stopped by Spelman College to spread the word about his new book, “The Tanning of America”, which explains his theory on the redefinition of marketing.
