2012 Suzi Award nominees announced

ATLANTA -- The nominees for this year's Suzi Bass Awards were announced Monday.

The Suzi Awards are among the top honors for Atlanta theater productions. This year's Suzi Nomination Party was held at the Aurora Theatre in Lawrenceville, which scored 18 nominations.

Aurora's world premiere production of Clyde 'n Bonnie: A Folktale had 15 nominations -- the most of any play or musical. Second place went to Spring Awakening at Actor's Express with 10 nominations, while two shows tied for a third-place seven nominations -- Atlanta Lyric Theatre's Gypsy and Theatrical Outfit's Red.

Spruill Gallery presents Southern Women - Southern Photographers

ATLANTA -- The new exhibit at Dunwoody's Spruill Center for the Arts features the photographs of three Southern artists.

"Southern Women - Southern Photography" showcases photography from Corinne Adams, Lucinda Bunnen and Judy Lampert, all of whom have had their work showcased in venues across the country.

According to a release from Spruill Center:

These photographs draw you inward, into a complex world of symbolism, meditation, intimacy and emotion. Each has been inspired by a greater voice for their images whcih speaks of their individual creative spirit.

They focus their lenses on complex stories with imagination and skill that push the boundaries of their processes while depicting compelling stories. Adams, Bunnen and Lampert share images that allow the viewer to see them as individuals using the photographic medium as a tool to tell their stories of beauty and strength.

'B at the Movies' this summer

'B at the Movies' this summer

ATLANTA -- Looking for some free family fun this summer?

ALDI and radio station B98.5 will present the "B at the Movies" outdoor movie series at several locations throughout metro Atlanta all summer long.

Everyone is invited to bring their blankets and chairs to the participating parks and watch the family-friendly movies on giant inflatable screens. Movies begin at dusk, but come out early for activities and giveaways.

ATLANTA -- How often is a musical rated 'O' for Offensive?  Trevor Petty, the writer and producer of this original show, thinks not often enough.  Unmasked: The Phantom of the Flopera is exactly that, hilariously and equally offensive and laugh out loud fun.  This original show comes with this warning: Unmasked is an equal opportunity offender, without regard to race, religion, gender, political affiliation or sexual orientation and has been rated "O" for “Offensive” by the Committee Against Creativity in America (CA-CA).  The show is produced by The Spirit of Broadway.

FMSA Student Selected as National Finalist

SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. -- Marissa Stacholy, an eighth-grade student at First Montessori School of Atlanta and the daughter of Lisa and Jan Stacholy of Dunwoody, has been chosen as a national finalist in the River of Words Poetry & Art Contest. Sponsored by the Center for Environmental Literacy at Saint Mary's College of California, the contest is the largest international youth poetry and art competition in the world.

The judging panel, which included former U.S. Poet Laureate Robert Hass, selected less than 100 poems and pieces of art from tens of thousands of entries.

Marissa will receive a medal, and her poetry will be included in the ROW's anthology. A copy of the book will be donated in her name to First Montessori School of Atlanta and her public library branch.
