International Food and Music Festival returns Oct. 19

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. -- This year's DeKalb International Food and Music Festival will be Saturday, Oct. 19 at Northlake Mall.

The event, which will be held from noon to 6 p.m., is coordinated by county Commissioner Stan Watson.

"We are excited to bring back the DeKalb International Food and Musical Festival, and I am confident that the festival will unite the dynamic blend of cultures and traditions that continue to exist in our country," Watson said in a statement.

The International Food and Music Festival celebrates DeKalb residents' many cultures, including Asian, African, West Indian and Middle Eastern. Planned festivities include shopping, food sampling and a Children's Village with puppet shows and face painting; admission to the kids' section is $10.

Author Cassandra King to visit metro Atlanta

(WXIA) -- A bestselling author will visit three locations in metro Atlanta this week.

Cassandra King's novels include Making Waves, The Sunday Wife and The Same Sweet Girls. Her latest book, Moonrise, is based on Daphne du Maurier's popular Rebecca.

King will be at the Northeast/Spruill Oaks Branch of the Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System on Thursday, Sept. 26 at 6:30 p.m. The library is located at 9560 Spruill Road in Johns Creek.

On Friday, Sept. 27 at 6:30 p.m., King will visit FoxTale Book Shoppe in Woodstock. She will also be at the Perimeter Center Barnes & Noble on Saturday, Sept. 28 at 2 p.m.

ATLANTA -- The nominees for the 2012-13 Suzi Bass Awards were announced Monday.

This year's Suzi Nomination Party was held at 7 Stages Theatre in Little Five Points and was hosted by past Suzi winners Ingrid Cole and Glenn Rainey.

The Suzi Awards are named for Suzi Bass, a well-loved Atlanta actress who died of cancer in 2002. Every year, they honor some of the best theater productions in metro Atlanta.

MJCCA announces book festival lineup

DUNWOODY, Ga. -- More than 40 authors, including some big literary names, are scheduled to attend this year's Book Festival of the Marcus Jewish Community Center of Atlanta.

The festival will be held Nov. 2-17 at the MJCCA in Dunwoody.

Attendees include Pulitzer Prize winner A. Scott Berg, popular "beach read" writer Elin Hilderbrand and Atlanta's own Pat Conroy, whose talk with Atlanta magazine columnist Theresa Weaver will close the festival.

ATLANTA -- Dunwoody teen Caitlin Gutierrez admits she was a nervous wreck when she first stepped into the recording booth at Jan Smith Studios in Atlanta.

"I was like, 'Oh, my gosh. I'm standing in the same place that Justin Bieber was standing in.' I'm a major fan," Caitlin told 11Alive's Jennifer Leslie.

Jan Smith has shaped the voices of Justin Bieber, Usher and Rob Thomas, who all refer to her as Mama Jan.

Mountainfilm on Tour is a traveling showcase of inspiring, adventurous and humorous short films spotlighting the environment and outdoor activity.
