Davis Academy Rocks!

ATLANTA -- On Wednesday, Feb. 23, the middle school students and teachers at the Davis Academy decided to discard their uniforms, don their jeans and favorite band T-shirts, and rock out.

This special school day was devoted to all things musical. Some famous guest musicians even paid a visit to help Davis Academy feel the "Power of Music."

* Liberty DeVitto, longtime drummer for Billy Joel
* Jeff Adams, singer and bass player from Starship
* Jeff Carlisi, founding member and guitarist for .38 Special
* Derek St. Holmes, singer and guitarist for the Ted Nugent Band

These seasoned performers treated Davis students to "master classes" on performance, technique and the importance of teamwork, bringing their decades of experience to a whole new generation.

Students spent the morning engaging in fun activities, like games of "Music Jeopardy!" and lessons on instrument making and the science of sound.

In the afternoon, the middle school students, faculty and parents gathered together for a rock concert starring the guests and some of the Davis Academy's most talented students.

The "Power of Music" program was the vision of middle school principal Jamie Kudlats, a musician himself, who wanted to share the impact of music from many perspectives.
