Message from GDOT: Slow Down and Retrieve Abandoned Cars!

ATLANTA -- The Georgia Department of Transportation is currently working to clean up the remaining ice and slush on Metro Atlanta highways, but abandoned cars in travel lanes and on shoulders are getting in the way.

GDOT is asking anyone who left a car on a highway to please retrieve it as soon as possible.

State law (A.C.C.G. 32-6-2) says that vehicles considered to be impeding the flow of traffic may be removed by law enforcement if necessary.

On a related note, please be careful while driving on Georgia highways this week. Although they may look dry, there are still plenty of icy patches all over Metro Atlanta.

Some drivers are tailgating, which can cause serious accidents. Others are traveling over 65 mph in the left lanes, which are still covered in ice; these drivers are either getting stuck or quickly swerving to the right, directly into traffic.

Be safe and stay warm; the temperature should climb above freezing tomorrow afternoon!
