Children's Author to Decorate Windows at Scottish Rite

ATLANTA -- Acclaimed children's book author and illustrator Marianne Richmond will visit Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite to share her literary and artistic talent with patients and their families.

The event will be on Tuesday, Nov. 30 at 2:00 p.m. Scottish Rite is located at 1001 Johnson Ferry Road, Atlanta, 30342.

This opportunity brings to life Richmond's endearing artistic styles on hospital windows as original works of art. Richmond will work with patients and their families using Expo Neon dry erase markers to create winter scenes that mimick the award-winning style in some of her most popular books, including Hooray for You! and If I Could Keep You Little.

The day at Scottish Rite is the first stop of a six-city, cross-country "Expo Holiday Cheer" tour.

"This is a unique opportunity to brighten the day of the patients and their families," said Richmond. "I am thrilled to be working with Expo on these wonderful events."

In addition to window decorating, Richmond will share her literary and artistic talents with the children through an interactive book reading and art lesson.

"The holidays can be a challenging time for patients and their families," said Steve Gradman, director of marketing for Expo. "Expo's Holiday Cheer Hospital Tour is designed to bring a little fun and holiday cheer to the children and their families. Expo realizes the need for patient activities throughout the year, not just at the holidays. To help beyond the holiday season, Expo is doanting $1,000 worth of dry erase boards and markers to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite."

"Community donations are important to the hospital, and events like this one can make a real difference to our patients," said Juliet Veal, Child Life Zone coordinator at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite. "We are grateful to companies like Expo who donate their time and resources to help brighten the day of our patients and their families."

In addition, Sourcebooks, publisher of Richmond's books, is donating two complete sets of Richmond's work to the hospital library.
